HarrellWilliam L. Harrell, an elder in the Dilton Church of Christ, near Murfressboro, Tennessee, died August 17, 1992, at his home. He was a faithful and devoted husband, father and grandfather and a scholarly, wise, and sound bishop of the church. Services with congregational singing were conducted in the building where he had worshipped for many years. He is survived by his wife, Irene; three children: Mrs. Jo Anne Kelton, Mrs. Susan Graddy, and one son, Billy. The work in Latin America lost a staunch supporter at his death. The Dilton church supports brother Jorge Saurez Vega, who preaches for the church at Tula, Valle, Columbia, and has also helped support work in Madrid, Medellin, Colombia, Nigeria, and Honduras. The Dilton church spends more money on others than it spends in support of its local programs. BurlesonEdsel Burleson, of Birmingham, AL, passed away July 28, 1992. Brother Burleson preached 47 years in his home state of Alabama. Jack Wilhelm, Tim Rice, John Wilson, and Tom McLure conducted the funeral service at the Palisades church building in Birmingham. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; five daughters, Mrs. Mitch Lollar of Alabaster, AL; Mrs. Larry Tacker, of Collierville, TN; Miss Ruth Burleson, of Bin-ningham; Mrs. Ralph Caudle, of Memphis, TN; and Mrs. Tim McMullins, of Muscle Shoals; three granddaughters; and by his mother, Lelia. She stood loyally by her capable husband in his 29 years as president of ACU. During the Don Morris years at Abilene Christian College, the school took an uncompromising stand for the truth of the gospel and made no concession to denominationalism or liberalism. Sister Morris will long be remembered for the important part she played in promoting and maintaining good works. |
