Grapes of Thorns or Figs of Thistles?
By Dan Flournoy
On November 28, 1995, Kregg and Karen Hood appeared on the TV program Celebration hosted by Marcus and Joni Lamb broadcast over KMPX channel 29, Dallas/Ft. Worth. They "testified" as to how they came to reject "traditional church of Christ teaching." Kregg claims that God is now giving him the words to speak to his audience.
Kregg Hood is the former pulpit minister of the South MacArthur Church of Christ in Irving, Texas. He and his wife Karen claim to have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Consequently they are now in fellowship with false teachers such as Dr. Jack Deer, Paul Cane, John Elliott, and Don Finto, who espouse tongue speaking, miraculous healing, instrumental music, faith only, and the impossibility of apostasy.
Both Kregg and Karen Hood have accepted denominational error and rejected the truth as it is in Christ Jesus. They have led others into apostasy and have established an organization known as "Full Message Ministry" for the purpose of leading others into the errors of Pentecostalism. They are especially interested in reaching those in the churches of Christ with the "fullness of the Holy Spirit." The Hoods have placed their membership at the Farmers Branch Church of Christ. This congregation is widely known for its false teaching and denominational stance. (See "Sounds of Change," Religion section, Dallas Morning News, June 3, 1995.) Kregg is now serving as Executive Vice President at Sweet Publishing.
Romans 16:17-18: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them that are causing the divisions and occasions of stumbling, contrary to the doctrine which ye learned: and turn away from them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Christ, but their own belly; and by their smooth and fair speech they beguile the hearts of the innocent.
2 John 9-11: Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son. If any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into your house, and give him no greeting: for he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works.
Matthew 7:15-16: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. By their fruits ye shall know them. Do (men) gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
(Editor's note: Sweet Publishing Company is the source of heretical literature. The danger is that Sweet sales people palm themselves off as faithful members of the church and frequently telephone congregations attempting to sell materials. Please be reminded that Sweet's Bible School curriculum comes from David G. Cooke; Gospel Advocate's series is from Scripture Press [Baptist]; Century's material is produced by Standard Publishing [Christian Church]. These materials were written by denominational people and originally published by denominational companies. It is disingenuous to sell denominational materials by giving a misleading impression. Candor should compel publishers to tell the truth about the origin and content of their merchandise.)
