Pure Water

Jesus gave up being on an equality with God to become in all things like us. He gave up his heavenly glory to be a human baby at Bethlehem. Jesus took on the form of a servant, but kept the form of God. He was fully man and fully God. The God/man.

Jesus came to earth to "seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). He came to give his life "a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28).

Jesus spoke not his own words, but the words of his heavenly Father. He said, "I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him (John 8:26). He also said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed" (John 8:31). Jesus gives us the pure water of life: "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:37).

Jesus said, "Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:14).

The pure water of life comes only from Jesus. It refreshes the soul and makes one right with God. It brings true happiness and the victor's reward. This life-giving water is in the words that Jesus spoke and in the words he authorized his disciples to speak and write. It comes from the river of life that flows from the throne of God.

Do not despise it!

We must be keepers of the springs. The clear waters flow from the divine source to satisfy our needs. Still, it is possible, as the stream goes out to the human family, for the clean water to be contaminated. If it is mixed with human philosophy, it is ruined and becomes a blight rather than a blessing. Many try to strip the gospel of its saving power.

God calls upon us to "Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 1:12). "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith" (1 Timothy 6:20).

Pure waters, though they issue from a heavenly fountain , can be corrupted. "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits" (Matthew 7:15-16).
