A Dependable Guide
By H. A. (Buster) Dobbs
Solomon warned, "There is a way that seemeth right unto a
man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death."
Jesus warned, "Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord
shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the
will of my Father who is in heaven."
Not every way is the right way. "There shall be false teachers
among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even
denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift
destruction" (2 Peter 2:1). Jehovah tells us to beware of
these false teachers.
What is the right way?
The Supreme Being who made all things has given us his word to
guide us. Jesus said, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy
word is truth" (John 17:17). There is an Almighty God and
he has given us the Bible to direct us and lead us to eternal
peace and safety.
The Bible is certified. The original creation with its wonders
and moral code was confirmed by the power of the God who made
it. The law given to the Jewish nation at Sinai was verified by
a demonstration of divine might. The new law given by Jesus and
the apostles was shown to be from God "with signs and wonders,
and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according
to his own will?" (Hebrews 2:4).
The words of God given to humans are certified by the from heaven
by the supernatural evidence given at the time of revelation.
This alone determines the content of the Holy Bible.
The words God gave to the writers of the Bible were inspired and
are true. The original words, being from God, have no mistakes
in them. The Bible is, therefore, error free. It is true from
first to last.
A Supreme Being whose power knows no limits has given to us a
book. It is sufficient to make us perfect in the sight of God.
"The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the
testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes
of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of
the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD
is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true
and righteous altogether" (Psalm 19:7-10).
The Bible -- and the Bible alone -- is the authority to which
we appeal.
"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye
do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark
place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any
private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old timed
by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved
by the Holy Ghost" (2 Peter 1:19-21).
