Frequently Asked Question

Question:
What evidence is there for the worship of angels by early Christians and what other religions workshipped or still workship angels?

Answer:
The New Testament church did not worship angels -- ever! When Cornelius attempted to worship Peter, the apostle told him "Stand up; I myself also am a man" (Acts 10:26). The apostle John was not allowed to worship and angel. The Bible says, "And I fell down before his feet to worship him. And he saith unto me, See thou do it not: I am a fellow-servant with thee and with thy brethren that hold the testimony of Jesus: worship God; for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Rev 19:10).

We are to worship God and him only are we to serve. Worshipping and serving God involves keeping his commands. Jesus said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and if fell not: for it was founded upon the rock. And every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof" (Matt 7:21-27). Jesus tells us, "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned" (Mark 16:16). He also said, "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give unto thee the crown of life" (Rev. 2:10).
