Frequently Asked Question

Question:
My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost a year now and we like to make out. We have both agreed that we would never have sex before marriage, but just recently, we started to wonder if it was against the word of God to make out. Is it?

Answer:
The Bible says nothing about "making out." As to whether what you are doing is wrong would depend on what you mean by "making out." Holding hands, embracing, light kissing would not be wrong. The problem with heavy petting is that it is hard to control and contain. You are better off not to start a process that is very difficult to stop. The better part of wisdom is to keep your expressions of affection on a very low key. It is also a good idea to have other people with you because this removes some of the temptation. It is refreshing to hear from people who have moral values and are concerned about proper behavior. Continue that noble attitude and do not let it deteriorate into conduct of which you may one day be ashamed. You may want to re-read Gal. 5:19.
