Frequently Asked Question

Question:
What does the phrase "Light of the World" mean?

Answer:
The expression "light of the world" occurs 3 times in the Bible (ASV and KJV). In Matthew 5:14 it refers to the disciples of Jesus as being the light of the world. In John 8:12 and 9:5 it refers to Jesus as the light of the world. In John 1:1-5 it is said that Jesus came to be light and overcome darkness. He is God and God is light and the cause of a light (See Genesis 1:3). The disciples of Jesus are the light of the world in the sense of reflecting the light that comes from deity -- they have no original light, but simply bend back the light they receive from Jesus, Jehovah and the Holy Spirit.
