Frequently Asked Question

Question:
What do we know about Salome, the woman mentioned in Mark 15:40?

Answer:
We find her again in Mark 16:1, going with other women disciples to anoint the body of Jesus at the tomb. She was from Galilee, and she was one of the women who in whatever ways ministered unto the needs of Jesus (Mark 15:41). External sources add little, but posit that she was the mother of James and John and cite Matthew 27:56 as proof of this (cf. Dickson's Bible Dictionary, p. 169). J.B. Coffman (p. 341) concurs. Beyond that, we do not know of other details given of her life.
