Books of Bible
"And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look upon. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he."There is an implication in the context that he was not as tall as his older brothers -- or at least that his older brothers had a more imposing physique than David. Still, very soon after his appointment to become king of Israel, David lead an army, won wars, and defeated nations. His countenance was "beautiful," that is, pleasing to the sight, and "goodly," a masculine noun meaning pleasant and agreeable. He may have been a short man with the physical appearance of a swimmer. He was "ruddy," which means red in color and may refer to either complexion or hair or both. We do not know the color of his eyes, nor anything else very much about his outward appearance. He was attractive to the opposite sex, respected by trained and hardened soldiers, and in general a fine physical specimen. He was distinctly not a knobby-kneed and scrawny little boy, as some artists would make him.
